A Cleaner Exterior for Every Northwest Hills Neighborhood
Northwest Hills is the hill neighborhood of northwest Austin, loosely bounded by MoPac on the east, Loop 360 on the west, RM 2222 on the south and Spicewood Springs Road on the north. People sometimes call it Far West after its main street, Far West Boulevard, which the Barrows imagined as a counterpart to downtown’s Congress Avenue. The ground changes quickly from one side to the other. The eastern edge along MoPac follows a low mesa, while the southern and western edges are rugged, with shady canyons cutting through high hills such as Cat Mountain. The Balcones and Mount Bonnell faults to the west shaped that terrain, and Bull Creek and its tributaries slice through limestone rises draped in juniper and oak. David Barrow Sr. and his associates developed much of the neighborhood in stages from the 1950s onward, laying out streets to fit the land, and building continued into the 1980s. For the outside of a home, both age and setting matter here. Houses from the 1950s and 1960s are now more than half a century old, the common design is brick and limestone, and the canyon lots and old trees that keep Northwest Hills green also keep some walls and roofs in shade, where Austin’s humid climate lets moisture linger.
Each visit starts with a walkthrough. Delicate surfaces such as paint, shingles and stone get a soft wash at low pressure, and driveways and walks get surface cleaning equipment for an even finish. For a free quote in Northwest Hills, call (512) 662-8422.
Pressure Washing for Northwest Hills Homes and Businesses
Residential Services in Northwest Hills
- House Washing in Northwest Hills: A low-pressure soft wash that lifts algae, mildew, pollen and dust from siding, trim, soffits and stone accents, with plants protected and every side rinsed evenly so the house dries to one color.
- Roof Soft Washing: Dark streaks and green growth removed from shingle, tile and metal roofs with a roof-safe solution at low pressure, never a pressure wand on the roofing, so the roof brightens without losing granules.
- Driveway & Garage Cleaning: Traffic lanes, oil drips, tire marks and organic film lifted from driveways, aprons, garage floors and walks, with pretreatment first and surface cleaning equipment for an even finish.
- Window Cleaning: Pollen haze, dust film and sprinkler spots cleared from glass, frames, sills and screens, finished with a squeegee so the glass dries clear instead of streaked.
- Gutter Cleaning: Packed leaves and debris removed by hand, corners and valleys cleared and downspouts checked for flow, so water drains away from the house instead of spilling over the edge.
- Deck & Fence Cleaning: Wood, stained, painted and composite decks and fences cleaned with controlled pressure, board by board and section by section, so the boards come out even without splinters or stripes.
- Natural Stone Cleaning: Patios, pool decks, walkways and walls of limestone, travertine, flagstone and slate cleaned with stone-safe methods matched to the material, so the stone keeps its texture and color.
Commercial Services in Northwest Hills
- Commercial Pressure Washing: Sidewalks, entries, dumpster pads and flatwork cleaned so a business looks cared for.
- Commercial Roof Cleaning: Streaks and organic growth removed from commercial roofs with a low-pressure method.
- Storefront Cleaning: Entries, walkways and building faces that customers see first, cleaned on a schedule that suits the business.
- Apartment & Breezeway Cleaning: Breezeways, stairwells and common areas cleaned for apartment communities.
Common Exterior Problems We Clean Around Northwest Hills
A handful of problems account for most of the calls we get. Here is what they are and how we handle each one.
Algae and Mildew in the Shade
The north side of a house and anything under tree cover dries slowly, which is exactly what algae and mildew need. We treat these areas with a low-pressure solution that breaks the growth down before we rinse.
Black Streaks on the Roof
Dark streaks running down shingles are usually algae feeding on the roofing. High pressure strips granules, so we clean roofs with a soft wash that removes the staining without damaging the roof.
Seasonal Pollen
Cedar pollen season leaves a sticky film that mixes with dust and moisture. We break it down with the right solution so the true color of the surface shows again.
Driveway Stains
Oil spots, tire lanes and traffic film sink into porous concrete over time. Pretreatment loosens them, and a surface cleaner keeps the result even from edge to edge.
Hard Water and Sprinkler Spots
Sprinklers leave mineral spots on lower walls, windows and stone that do not wash off with plain water. We treat them during the clean and tell you honestly if older spotting has etched the surface.
Gutter Overflow Streaks
When a downspout is blocked, rainwater backs up and runs down the face of the gutter and the wall. Those dark tiger stripes come off with the right cleaner once the gutter itself is flowing again.
What Northwest Hills Homeowners Count On From Us
Here is what homeowners in Northwest Hills can count on when our crew arrives.
Low Pressure Where It Belongs
Paint, siding, shingles and soft stone are cleaned with a soft wash: low pressure and a cleaning solution that breaks down the growth, so the surface comes clean without being worn down. Concrete gets surface cleaning equipment instead.
An Eco-Friendly Way to Clean
Clean Green was built around eco-friendly exterior cleaning. We choose solutions for the surface in front of us, use only what the job needs, and rinse plants and beds so the yard is left the way we found it.
A Local Shop Since 2018
Bryan Gerhold founded Clean Green in 2018, and our crews work out of our shop at 13200 Pond Springs Rd in Austin. We are open Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 8 PM.
A Walkthrough Before the Water Goes On
Every job starts with a look at the surfaces, the stains and the landscaping, so the method fits the property instead of the other way around. You know what we plan to do before we start.

The Steps Behind Every Northwest Hills Job
The work is the same careful routine on every property we clean in Northwest Hills. Here is how a visit runs.
1. Look Around First
Before any equipment comes off the truck, we check the materials, the staining and the landscaping so the plan fits the property.
2. Shield What Surrounds the Work
Beds, lawns and fixtures near the work area are protected first, so the yard looks the same when we leave.
3. Treat the Surface
The right solution goes on at low pressure for siding, roofs and stone, or as a pretreatment for concrete, and it is given time to work.
4. Wash and Detail
Walls are rinsed at low pressure, concrete is cleaned with a surface cleaner, and edges, corners and steps are detailed by hand.
5. Finish and Review
A final look after the rinse confirms the result, and the work area is cleaned up before the crew packs up.
What to Expect on Service Day in Northwest Hills
Service day starts with a look around. The crew checks each surface, notes the plants and fixtures near the work and confirms the plan with you if you are home. You do not need to be there, as long as gates are open, pets are indoors and we can reach an outside spigot. We work through the property one area at a time, and we do a final check as surfaces dry. Before we pack up, the work area is rinsed and tidied, so the yard is ready to use again.
Northwest Hills Pressure Washing Pricing
Northwest Hills is made up of more than a dozen subdivisions, built in stages mainly from the 1950s to the 1980s. Most houses are Colonial, Californian ranch or Texas Tuscan villa in style, and the common design is brick and limestone. Beyond Mesa Drive many are big family homes with large garages, landscaped yards and old trees, while the lower part of the neighborhood near Greystone and Wood Hollow adds condominiums, townhouses and apartments. The ground varies as much as the homes: a surviving land-use plan by Barrow and Stahl labels areas Flat Land, Rough Land and Really Rough Land. For the work, each home needs its own plan. Brick and limestone take a gentler approach than painted trim, and where a lot falls away toward a canyon, the back wall can stand much taller than the front.
Every quote is free and is set after we see the property or a few clear photos. The price depends on:
- Size: the square footage of siding, roof or concrete to be cleaned
- Height: the number of stories and how the roofline is reached
- Surface type: stone, stucco, painted wood, vinyl, tile, shingle or concrete, each with its own method
- Condition: how heavy the algae, mildew, oil or staining is and how long it has been there
- Access: slopes, narrow side yards, dense planting and gated areas
Booking more than one service in the same visit is easy, and we quote them together, so a house wash, a roof clean and a driveway clean can all be done in one trip. Call (512) 662-8422 to get started.
Most homes in the area start with house washing in Northwest Hills, and we can quote any other surface in the same visit.

Proudly Serving Northwest Hills With Local Roots
Northwest Hills, sometimes called Far West, is a Travis County neighborhood in northwest Austin, ZIP code 78731, west of MoPac and north of RM 2222. The brothers David and Edward Barrow led much of its development in the 1950s and 1960s, and David’s wife gave it its name.
Stillhouse Hollow Nature Preserve
Stillhouse Hollow Nature Preserve lies just south of Spicewood Springs Road and belongs to the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve system. Its 20 acres hold many native plants, habitat for several listed endangered species and 89 recorded bird species, which draws birdwatchers. A paved trail winds down to a wooden deck overlooking the canyon and a flowing spring. In 2016 the Friends of Stillhouse Hollow, with support from the Travis Audubon Society and NWACA, added metal benches and an interpretive kiosk. It is one of the green spaces residents fought for after the early plans left out parks.
Far West Boulevard
Far West Boulevard is the reason for the neighborhood’s nickname. The Barrows conceived it as a counterpart to Congress Avenue, and it runs from MoPac deep into the residential streets before reaching Ladera Norte near Capital of Texas Highway. The stretch between MoPac and Mesa Drive is the neighborhood’s biggest commercial area, and it sits on the site of the old Texas Crushed Stone Company quarry, which mined limestone mostly for gravel, concrete and lime. The quarry’s too-regular walls can still be seen to the north below the Dell Jewish Community Campus.
Anderson High School on Mesa Drive
L.C. Anderson High School opened at its current location on Mesa Drive in 1973. It carries the history of the original Anderson, which served Austin’s African American students from 1889 until it closed in 1971 as part of desegregation, and its name honors L. C. Anderson, principal from 1896 to 1929. Today it serves Northwest Hills in Austin ISD alongside Doss Elementary, Hill Elementary and Murchison Middle School. Mesa Drive also marks the line beyond which many of the neighborhood’s bigger family homes, with large garages and old trees, begin.
Northwest Hills is a patchwork of more than a dozen subdivisions and named streets. Cat Mountain rises in the southwestern sector, and the Statesman has pictured homes on Cat Mountain Cove and houses set into stark cliffs above RM 2222 and Loop 360. Shadow Valley Drive is where Jimmy Buffett wrote “Margaritaville.” Tallowood Drive, Greystone and Wood Hollow are other familiar streets, and the old Spicewood Springs camping ground of the Tonkawas and Comanches is remembered at the spring at Ceberry Drive and Spicewood Springs Road. East across the railroad tracks lies Allandale, and the City of Austin’s Northwest area continues north into Great Hills and Anderson Mill.
Northwest Hills sits against the Balcones and Mount Bonnell faults, so its homes stand on two kinds of ground. Under much of it lies Walnut Clay, which later troubled slab foundations, and many foundations went in on caliche clay soil that expands and shrinks. Ground that moves like that can crack driveways and walks, and cracked concrete gives dirt and algae more edges to hold. The canyon side is limestone draped in juniper and oak, where shade keeps walls damp longer in humid weather. Brick and limestone, the common exterior here, are cleaned with low-pressure soft washing rather than high pressure, and older mortar gets the same care.
We serve Northwest Hills along with every town on our areas served page, from the same crew that handles pressure washing in Austin. See photos and reviews of our pressure washing in Northwest Hills on our Google Business Profile.
